The Sewing Studio is my space and yours. It’s where creativity comes alive, where I make stuff to delight buyers looking for a spark of originality.
The Sewing Studio is also a teaching space where students learn to create magic on a sewing machine. I am pleased to offer the studio to other creative hearts and hands. I can’t wait to meet you!
Playing with fibre is my favourite activity — whether it’s sewing garments and bags, spinning and making yarn for knitting or weaving, or creating portraits with my sewing machine and a palette of lovely threads, I love it all. Sewing is what I choose to teach because that is where my knowledge and skills go deepest. This craft has occupied my imagination and my hands ever since I made my first dress at age 12. I have since taken many classes and workshops, keeping my skills sharp over the years. The best precision sewing techniques I learned from a brief exploration quilting and free-motion stitching.
I enjoy using the latest high-tech sewing machines as much as the next sewist but I’ve developed a soft spot for vintage machines because they stand by you through thick and thin — literally! I especially like them for teaching as these no-nonsence machines allow learners to better understand and execute the step-by-step construction process. (I make an exception here for modern authomatic buttonholers.)
At The Sewing Studio, classes are kept small (2-4 students) for better learning and a relaxed athmosphere. All equipment is supplied including sewing machines and cutting and pressing tools. Project kits are provided where indicated (fee is payable at first class). Registration is required to mark your spot.
I am a certified sewing instructor with Palmer-Pletch.
